Finally got a chance to watch Legend of Korra…
That’s interesting. I never took energy-bending as need to be pure of soul, just…unbendable as in ‘you are iron-clad in your beliefs, nothing could shake you’. Aang knew the fire lord had to be stopped, no ifs, ands or buts thus he could take away his bending.
Also, there is a running theory with Amon is that he isn’t energy-bending per see, but using a method of chakra-blocking~ Which I think would fit in well with his characters and goals.
Perspective, you have….thanks, this totally helps alleviate my irritation with Amon…not completely but at least I have some other alternative to make sense of what I’m seeing. I mean…it seemed like with Aang, the experience not only changed the Fire Lord but changed Aang as well….with Amon, he just DOES it. Like it’s easy and cheap and unfair….
I hope the effects are temporary…he’s already seemingly too powerful…you know what it is? He seems a little over exposed to me…in the Last Airbender, they really don’t let you see the Fire Lord too much, and while Zuko and other fire nation warriors were enemies, they had a lot of flaws. Zuko, the guy who killed the Moon spirit, even their regular soldiers, they made a lot of mistakes and dumb decisions. Amon seems too perfect…..but I’m definitely gonna keep watching, can’t wait for Korra to whup his ass….
Oh, I do agree with completely. :D It is kind-of too easy for Amon right now. He simply does it, that’s all. He’s ruthless, but it doesn’t seem to affect in way, shape or form like with Aang, who, at the bare minimum, seemed drained for the progress. Amon, nope. He’s an supreme entity and he will be prefect for his supporters! That’s probably why I believe the chakra-blocking more than energy-bending (though, I won’t lie, that would interesting to see either option fully explored and developed more in the LOK universe).
And yeah, so far, Amon’s perfection. He’s ruthless, calculating and completely unmovable in his ideals and game-plan and that’s why he’s a great antagonist for Korra, imo. If she’d had the Phoenix King as her end-game, she would’ve marched right up to him and smack him down a peg without a second thought, probably during the third episode too. <3
Amon isn’t going to beaten that easily though because he (or, at least, his image) isn’t so black/white. Bending elite is oppressive. All the cops and the entire council is made up of benders. And he’s using that platform as a power grab to build his utopia. People rally with him not out of loyalty, propaganda and nationalism like with Ozai but because they are are sick of bending elite in some way. Unlike the folks in the Fire Nation back in A:TLA, it’s not about slowly showing a country that actually isn’t evil nor one that’s as perfect and flawless either as most believe. They’re…people and people are capability of both great good and great evil. :D (And mistakes and dumb decisions too. Zhao, why, oh why, did you kill the moon spirit? How did you really think that was going to end, you dumbass. -_-;;)
Amon though, he’s not a person. He’s an idea and that makes it easier to show him off as perfect at the moment. He has no humanity, because he’s just mask and a voice over the radio~
But, yeah. I talk too much. Sorry, you can ignore all of that! xD But!! Yes! I can’t wait to see his humanity be shown and that mask slowly crack away, annnnnnnnd for Korra to step up and fix Republic City/kick him down ten pegs either! :D It’s gonna be soooooooooooo good, I just know it!
Cheers!
